Welcome to Wiki.Wikiconsulting.com
A wiki is not just software.
Getting a wiki installed is relatively easy. Finding purposes and getting it used effectively are much harder. Effective adoption requires skill and dedication, leadership, time and money. There are a lot of mistakes that have been made, and those mistakes are avoidable.
My intent with WikiConsulting.com is to make it a cross-industry destination promoting the use of wikis.
- For companies thinking about using a wiki its a place to determine the right context, the right scope and scale, the right first processes, the right lead teams. The promise is "Come Consult with Us" (and we'll tell you).
- For consultants who have experience either directly with wikis or in some other discipline that is becoming more relevant because of wikis, that they can relate their stories, find common wiki-based context, and get their stories straight. For consultants, "Come Consult with Us" really means we'll help them promote their services.
Other sites in this network of efforts As Sunir Shah said in his opening email:
- WikiPatterns.com -- Stewart Mader. A user-friendly pattern language of wiki behaviour
- WikiConsulting.com -- Martin Cleaver. The worlds' wiki consultants are the front-line troops; provide a place for them to self-organize.
- Wiki Wednesdays -- Socialtext. A regular user group / meetup for wiki folk.
- WikiSym, Wikimania, RecentChangesCamp, various wiki tracks -- regular conferences
Other initiatives needing effort:
- A wiki events calendar
- An open-content zero-to-sixty (zero-to-hundred for those on metric) guidebook for helping people start their own wiki and succeed. Meatball has the domains http://www.startawiki.org (.net, .com) for this project.
- A wiki speakers list
- A set of known successful, repeatable wiki process models
- A wiki consultant directory
